Explaining common Pain in the body

Many of the clients we see every day have pain or discomfort in 3 main areas of the body.

1.   Back of the neck

2.  Shoulders

3.  Back      (lower, mid and upper)

1.  Back of neck Pain

The muscle that it the main cause of this pain is the Levator Scapula.    (the muscle that elevates the scapula bone).   The main cause of this pain comes because the Levator Scapula is stretched too much and kept in that stretched position all day.  It presses down on the nerves in the neck and shoulder and causes pain.  The muscle that needs to be lengthened is the Pectoralis Minor   (shown in the diagram to the left).  The Pec. Minor is a structural Muscle which when massaged and lengthened will bring the body back into balance and out of pain.  When we work this area we take a holistic approach rather than work on just the pain area.  To remedy this condition we will work on all the muscles on all sides of the scapula bone. Plus the muscle in the front of the neck , the Scalenes.

2.  Shoulder Pain

Most people will have this pain right at the top edge of the Scapula bone nearest to the spinal column. This is also the Levator Scapula causing this pain.  If the pain goes further out towards the shoulder I have observed that the problem normal is because of a tight and shortened Pec. Minor or other muscles on the front of the shoulder.

3.  Back Pain

Every one that I have worked on that has Back pain also has very tight hamstrings   (back of the thigh muscles) and calf muscles.  To release the pain we first have to release the nerve pain    (sciatic nerve) that is traveling up the spinal column by working in the Glutes    (Muscles in the posterior) and the deep rotator muscles under the Glutes, the back of the thigh and the calf muscles.  Lower Back pain is also caused when the hips or lower back are out.  This causes pain between the 12 rib and the top of the hip bone  the Quadratus Lumborum.  If the pain is closer to the spine it is normally the Erector spinae    (the muscle that hold the spine erect.)
